This course provides a one-semester overview of the Biosystems and Bioprocess Engineering subject, reflecting an emerging field of applied research that aims at a system-level understanding of biological systems toward their targeted design and improvement. In this regard, this course includes the introduction of systems and synthetic metabolic engineering approaches as well as industrial application examples encompassing an overview of the Food and Fermentation Technology. This course highlights these developments and provides detailed background and manufacturing information; for example, the type of raw material used, its pre-treatment, the temperature/climate, and the conditions of the fermentation process.
