Course Description:
This course introduces computer architecture, the study of designing Instruction Set Architectures (ISAs) and hardware which implements ISAs. Computer architecture has always influenced the way we design and implement not only hardware, but also software. Assuming little experience in assembly languages and/or logic design, this course aims to provide basic understanding in computer organization with an emphasis on how a computer system works and why it performs as it does. Along with the textbook contents, the students will learn how to design and implement a classic 5-stage CPU pipeline to facilitate better understanding on how the CPUs we use today are implemented.
