This course will begin by looking at the historical background to English education in Japan and come up to date through discussions of the demands globalisation requires of Japanese learners and educators. While deepening understandings of the role of English as a language of international communication in the era of globalisation, the classes will consider the linguistic content and teaching approaches suitable for Japanese education. The seminar will also encourage students to reflect on their understandings of English education in Japan.
