Course Description: This lecture module introduces students to some of the key areas of sociological study, equipping them with knowledge and skills fundamental to understanding a wide range of present-day issues such as the changing role of religion in society, structural inequalities, the social management of crime and deviance, and environmental problems and solutions. The module is divided into four main themes linked by the concepts of conformity and identity: ‘religion and conformity’, ‘socialisation, crime and deviance’ ‘social stratification and inequalities’, and ‘sustainability, society and the environment’.
