Course Description: This unit is an introduction into mapping and applications using drones and associated technologies. The fundamentals of field data capture, mapping and photogrammetry will be introduced including pre-fieldtrip planning of drone flights based on best practice and job specifications, in-field data capture, basics of positioning, photogrammetric workflows, processing of images, corrections, geo-referencing and the production of point clouds, 3D models, Digital Surface Models (DSM), Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and ortho-images. Further, the post-processing of photogrammetric outputs including data analytics, classification and geo-visualisation will be introduced. Application in multiple disciplines including Agriculture/Ecology/Health, Built Environment as well as Mining/Geology/Geophysics will be discussed. The theory learned in the lectures is applied during practical exercises.
