Course Description: This course aims to provide an in-depth discussion of problems and solutions of environmental and biodiversity conservation, including student presentations on endangered species around the globe. Students taking this course need to have fundamental knowledge of biology and ecology. Major topics include conservation genetics, techniques in assessing biodiversity, global biodiversity loss, design and role of reserves and protected areas, wildlife conservation, habitat restoration and conservation policy and laws. Emphasis will be given to problems of critical importance to Hong Kong and the world today.
