Brain Image Analysis and Interpretation of Neurodegeneration

Course Description:
Neuroimaging, the study of the brain with medical-imaging devices such as magnetic resonance scanners, is our number one in-vivo source of quantitative data on brain structure and function. While scientists are learning more and more about the human brain's anatomy and physiology/function, there is still a huge knowledge gap, especially when trying to explain complex symptoms. The more we learn about the human brain, the better we can diagnose and treat brain diseases such as dementia, multiple sclerosis, and brain tumors. Imaging modalities such as MRI and PET have improved in the last 30 years, to the extent that they can be reliably employed as non-invasive biomarkers not only for visualizing the brain’s anatomy but also physiology and function. This summer course will be held at the Amsterdam UMC, location VUmc. Here is where the Amsterdam Neuroscience research institute is as well as the Amsterdam Alzheimer’s, Multiple Sclerosis, and Brain
