Course Description:
Global Challenges introduces you to several major societal challenges; many of which you will explore in more depth during subsequent courses throughout your degree. This course will give you an opportunity to explore how various facets of globalization impact the world we live in today. The course is broadly divided in two parts. First, we sketch a broad story of how globalization has developed in the past few decades. During these weeks, we will talk about globalization and the nation state; whether globalization has changed the way countries deal with transnational conflicts; how institutions can help countries to coordinate their actions; and how the institutional system that has developed in the past few decades is increasingly under pressure by rising powers.
