Course Description: This unit is for students in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) disciplines to undertake professional practice and apply discipline specific knowledge and employability skills in the workplace.The placement may be with industry, community, a research group or a government agency; paid or unpaid; work experience, projects or research; and may be advertised by Curtin or arranged by the student themselves.The work placement will be full or part-time for a minimum 100 hours but may be longer if requested by the host organisation. Students can undertake the work placement prior to semester, in the semester tuition free weeks, or during semester breaks but it must be completed by the end of the following study period. In addition to the hands-on development of industry-specific skills and connecting with mentors in their chosen profession, students will engage in a series of career development activities designed to increase job-readiness.
