It provides an overview of Earth structure, minerals, and rocks, and how these are created and modified by igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic processes. It describes principles of stratigraphy and geologic time, and of rock deformation and plate tectonics, and explains how volcanoes, earthquakes and other geohazards impact on society. It also introduces the various types of mineral, energy, and groundwater deposits that are essential to maintain livelihoods.
