This course provides an introduction to the discipline of international criminal law, which lies at the intersection of public international law, criminal law, and human rights. It takes a critical perspective on international criminal justice, examining its accomplishments, paradoxes, and debates. During the class we will cover a wide range of topics, including the history and sources of international criminal law, the core crimes, individual criminal responsibility, and the roles played by various actors. The course focuses on modern international criminal tribunals, such as the ICTY, ICTR, and the International Criminal Court, and involves an in-depth study of key concepts, as well as critical analysis of cases.
