After completing the course, the student has a clear picture of the changes in Finnish society in the 19th and 20th centuries and its key themes and developments. They understand the functioning of the state and the role of citizens and their groups in the formation of the political system. They understand the forms and contents of social struggle. Students are able to compare Finnish society to other countries.
The course examines the political history of Finnish society from the beginning of the 19th century to the present day. The course gives students an overview of the long development trends of Finnish society and the turning points of history. The course examines the nation’s formation, the relations between the state and civil society, civic movements and political parties, and the struggles for social power.
