Course Description:
This course, Japanese Culture Through Film, is intended to survey some of the major Japanese
films and film directors. By examining some famous Japanese films, students will have
opportunities to gain a deeper understanding of the Japanese people and their way of life, so
that they can contrast and compare it with the culture they come from. The focus of the course
will be on cultural analysis. Students will gain broad knowledge of core aspects of Japanese
culture. Every 2-3 weeks we will watch and discuss a new film.
