Asia's world importance has evolved rapidly and it now often takes center stage in global politics.
As one of the world's most vital regions, East Asia embodies explosive economic growth and vibrant
societies, but also conflicting national interests and strategic competition among major powers,
challenging regional stability. This course will analyze the top issues, focusing mainly on social and
cultural issues, in East Asia today. The course will start with establishing some theoretical tools to
help us better understand subtext and bias in the media we consume. Then we will move on to
address various social and cultural issues which are of key importance to people living in this
region today
