Course Description:
his course deals with major issues on how Japan has been contending with war since the Meiji Restoration. Students will be
given the opportunity to examine relevant cases or topics chronologically as well as explore the challenges and the potential
of Japanese pacifism based on the preface and Article 9 of the Constitution of Japan in the 21st century.
Students will be encouraged to actively participate in discussions and presentations.
The basic goal of this course is to help students acquire enough knowledge of Japanese history related to war, and to be able to consider the potential of Japanese pacifism in promoting world peace in the era of globalization.
