The course aims to introduce students to some of the main economic, social, cultural and political processes of Latin American societies, through a journey that extends from the processes of Latin American independence and the transformations that occurred during the formation of nation states to the democratic transitions of the late twentieth century. The subject combines the approach of the processes at the regional level with case studies that allow emphasizing the divergent trajectories experienced by the different countries during the period under study, placing the focus on the participation of the popular classes in each of the historical processes.
