Course Description:
Migration Studies As Japan’s population ages and shrinks, and labor shortages become more severe, the Japanese government is shifting towards more open acceptance of foreign workers. The government is starting to ease restrictions on both the number of foreign workers as well as their length of stay. At the same time, local governments, employers, non-profit organizations and NGOs are developing various initiatives to facilitate the integration of larger numbers of immigrants into Japanese workplaces and communities.
Against this backdrop of great change in Japanese society, there is a need for Japan's future leaders to be knowledgeable about migration processes, policies, common issues, and potential solutions.
This course provides comprehensive coverage of key aspects of migration, including migration theory, policy, economic factors, and related challenges seen overseas and in Japan.
