Course Description: An exploration of Asia's major religions and philosophies, such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Taoism, Islam, Christianity, Confucianism, Shinto and Shamanism, in association with social institutions. The aim of the unit is to relate social, political,cultural and environmental practices to religious views on life, after life, reincarnation, divinity, health, human nature and self, and shows how they are reflected in everyday life and social institutions. The analytical and comparative approach aims to increase 'literacy' in Asian societies and cultures.
