Course Details

Country: Australia
Institution: Curtin University
Course Title: Physics 1
Course Number: PHYS1005
Course Description: This unit assumes that students have passed Physics ATAR and Mathematics Methods ATAR or equivalent. Students who have not passed both these subjects and equivalent should enrol in PHYS1006 Foundations of Physics. It provides students with a detailed knowledge of some of the core concepts of physics including linear mechanics (Newtons Law), work and energy conservation equations (energy and momentum), rotational mechanics (conservation of angular momentum), gravitation, fluid mechanics, waves and oscillations (superposition, interference and standing waves, sound waves, Doppler effect) and an introduction to thermodynamics. The unit is underpinned by physical data analysis and graphical techniques, and a sound understanding of uncertainties in measurement.
Language: English
Approved Equivalent: PHYS 160 + PHYS 161
