Course Description: JPL215 is designed to acquaint students with grammatical structures and vocabulary appropriate for the advanced beginning learners who have studied Japanese at the college level for approximately two semesters. This course is aimed at students to reach CEFR level A2-A2+* Through a variety of classroom activities, students develop all four linguistic skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), especially oral communication skills. Students will learn how to understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). The course will also introduce students to some fundamental Japanese socio-cultural concepts that will help them interpret the underlying meaning behind what is said and what is not said in their encounters with Japanese people on and off campus. This course covers some chapters of the textbook “Genki 2.”
