Course Objective
To gain insight into the theories and methods pertaining to foreign language teaching. You will learn to apply relevant didactic models and critically analyse language teaching materials and methods. As such, you will examine teaching methods for various languages like Dutch, French, German, Spanish and English, and design communication-based teaching materials. Furthermore, you will learn to formulate advice and recommendations for educational practices while developing your oral presentation as well as written academic skills.
Course Content
We focus on different theoretical perspectives on the acquisition and instruction of foreign languages and apply them to analyse teaching methods and materials. We study topics like order and arrangement of exercises, teaching perceptive and productive language skills, as well as vocabulary and grammar. As a final assessment for the course, you design and present a syllabus (containing a serie of 5 or 6 lessons of 45 minutes) of a language course.
