Course Description: Course Objective Become familiar with the principles and mechanisms that govern sensation and perception. Summarize the role of specific brain regions and neural circuits involved in perceptual processing, and how it is measured and studied. Evaluate past and current theories and research on perception. Discuss the implications of human perceptual processing on everyday life. Course Content What are the basic building blocks that allow us to perceive the world around us? How is perception optimized given its varied purposes and the challenges it faces? This course will introduce the basic principles and mechanisms that govern sensation and perception. The primary focus will be on perceptual research in the visual modality, however, audition will also be discussed.
