Course Description: Course Objective After finishing this course, the student: - has knowledge of the basic notions of translation studies and is able to apply these notions to the history of Bible translation; - has become familiar with Bible translation as cultural mediation - is able to understand and reflect on contemporary Bible translation projects and to put those reflections into academic writing. Course Content In this course the student acquires acquaintance with the broader field of (historical) Bible translation studies, and basic notions such as equivalence, skopos, cultural mediation, and foreignization versus domestication. The student learns how to apply these notions to Bible translation and thereby gains insight into contemporary Bible translation projects.
