Course Title: Globalisation, Security and International Terrorism
Course Number: IRL2018
Course Description: The study-unit will begin with a focus on the process of globalisation and the political and academic debates surrounding this phenomenon. Whilst proponents of globalisation speak of it as an international force beneficial to global development, opponents of globalisation maintain that the negative impacts of this phenomenon will have a more resounding effect. The impact of the process of globalisation on the state will also be assessed, reviewing the role of the state on national and international decision making processes and its centrality in world affairs. Following an assessment of the impact of globalisation on international politics and the role of the states, the study unit will go on to examine the impact of globalisation on international security issues. With the resurgence of globalisation as a political and economic phenomenon, how has this impacted the security issues – both traditional and non-traditional – that currently challenge the international community.
