Course Description:
Introduction to mechanics, the understanding of motion of bodies in general and the conserved quantities contained within the laws of motion that are the foundations for all of physics. Quantities relevant to the physics of mechanical systems in different situations are introduced, including for collisions, in stationary states, during rotation, and how these are pertinent when describing the flow of heat and fluids. This course explores both experimental and theoretical aspects of Newtonian mechanics and thermodynamics, laying the foundation for further understanding of physics. The mathematical tools of calculus are used throughout. Corequisite module: Mathematics 114
