Course Description: Psychology I is a full-year course which provides a broad introduction to the discipline of psychology as a foundation for future studies in the field. Course content addresses the systematic and scientific study of human behaviour, the theories that have been proposed to explain this behaviour and the application of these theories in a variety of situations. More specifically, over the course of the year the student will become familiar with the historical background of the discipline and the different perspectives from which it has been studied. The student will engage with a theoretical understanding of cognitive processing and be introduced to the biological bases of behaviour, human development across the life span and the extent to which individual behaviour results from the interaction between inherited characteristics and acquired experiences.
