Objective The Internet and the World Wide Web in particular have become major tools in the discovery of products and services, accessing information, promoting a company image and as a marketing tool. Good planning of a web site is therefore important to a business organisation, as in many cases, it is the first and sometimes only contact many potential customers have with an organisation. This is a practical study-unit designed to initiate marketing studies students into the “behind the scenes” of the World Wide Web, consisting of hands-on classes in a computer Laboratory. Students learn the basic skills needed to design and create a web site using HTML and graphic packages. The study-unit also stresses upon the importance of user friendly navigation, colour schemes, use of graphic components and clear communication. The basic Internet protocols of data communication, the Domain name system, hosting servers, client browsers and their interdependency
