Course Description: This introductory level of course focuses on the historical, political, and economical, and social development of the East Asian world. “East Asia” referred in this course is defined in a broad way as a region including not only China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan but also Southeast Asia. Basic information about the region’s historical experiences from antiquity until the present, political systems, political cultures and socio-economic structures will be provided in lectures. Also to be discussed as key current regional issues such as history-related disputes, economic growth and concomitant problems, and so on. This is a required course for all students concentrating in East Asian Studies.
