Course Description:
This subject is devoted to developing an understanding of how the mind works. The unit will address theories of classical (Pavlovian) and operant conditioning, and learning by observation. The application of scientific method to questions about behaviour and behaviour change will be emphasised with consideration of the view of learning as an evolutionary and adaptive mechanism. Cognitive topics will include attention, memory, concept learning, reasoning and decision making with a focus on applications in cognitive psychology.
