Country: France
Course Title: Langue et littérature française
Course Number: 1J11UED2
Course Description: From antiquity to the very contemporary - from Plato to Donald Trump - the question of fiction, its relation to the truth and its role in the production of belief is central to Western culture. The objective of this course is to outline this long debate, starting from some of its essential motives (myths, fake news, rumors, and false news, but also mimesis, fables, possible worlds or "voluntary suspension of disbelief "...), from concrete cases. The course will be built from theoretical readings (Plato, Aristotle, Marc Bloch, Roland Barthes, Paul Veyne) and a body of fictional texts that bring into play these questions (Lucien, Boccaccio, Rabelais, Cervantes, Stael, Flaubert, Borges, Minard ...).
