Course Description:
This is a full year course covering the following areas: This course provides a critical grounding in core theories and research in human development, personality, cognition and social psychology. The Developmental Psychology section introduces selected theories in personality and developmental psychology. In the Personality section, aspects of both normal and abnormal personality and human development are considered from psychoanalytic, emotional and other perspectives. The Cognitive Psychology component explores theories of: attention, perception and memory; thought, language and knowledge representation; and problem solving and decision making. Core topics in Social Psychology will be explored by way of key theories and research on social thinking, social influence, intergroup relations and social identity, and also includes introduction to critical approaches – feminist, postcolonial and psychoanalytic social psychologies.
