Course Description:
The lecture informs about the most important subject areas, questions, theories, terms, and research results of the media and communication science. In accordance with the specific Mannheimer approach, the perspectives of social science communication science and cultural studies media science are linked. After introductions to philosophy of science and specialist history as well as a clarification of the basic terms "communication" and "media", selected basic questions of the subject will be discussed: What is the specificity of different media and forms of communication? How has media communication developed historically? How are today's media systems designed? How are media related to politics and economics? Which structures have media texts? How are they used, received and processed? What effects do media have? The lecture will be held jointly by the professors of the subject. It is supplemented by tutorials in which the topics are discussed and followed up in a smaller circle.
