Course Description: Students study the various causes of conflict in the international system as well as how conflict is perceived and explained by various International Relations theories. Although strategic studies draws on historical case studies for its analyses, this course also identifies, analyses and evaluates current threats to international stability and security. Measures preventing and ending conflicts are also covered. Students proceed to an introduction of the area of International Law and are further introduced to the mechanisms that have been created for the purpose of bringing a degree of structure and order to the international system as well as evaluating its effectiveness in achieving this objective.
