The course will introduce the students to various theories and analytical perspectives for
sustainability and will apply them to case studies from developed and developing
countries.
Among the topics covered by the course are: population growth and global demographic
trends; human impact on the natural environment; ecological footprint and carrying
capacity; sustainable economic growth; poverty; ecosystem services; consumption,
resources and waste; the water-energy-food nexus; climate mitigation and adaptation;
