Course Description:
From art to advertising and from power to politics, cultural studies have inspired and influenced many contemporary debates in society. In this course, we will delve into the ever-expanding field of cultural studies. We will discuss its history and explore classical cultural studies such as representation, gender, and race. Also, we want to investigate the contemporary value of cultural studies as a field of research and discover emerging concepts and ideas. In doing this, we will move across different media and genres such as art, film, literature, music and photography. Part of the classes will be devoted to critically analyzing objects selected by students. With the help of guest lectures we will experience how cultural theories are nowadays used in practice.
