Course Description:
The course is divided into two 5-point courses. In the introduction to linguistics course we look at language in general and English in particular from various perspectives, from speech sounds to the structure of discourse. In the English language history, we trace the history of the English language from its roots to its current status as a world wide lingua franca.
The teaching is in the form of lectures and seminars in smaller groups and involves oral and written tasks. During the course the students practice individual work, critical thinking, oral and written communication, planning and analytical skills.
