This course is open to any student who wants to become an enlightened citizen, by acquiring the necessary tools for decrypting media content, to fully and actively participate in the life of the democratic society. This course is made for you if you wish: - to master media and news literacy skills, essential tools for helping you to separate opinion from information, propaganda from political commentary – which constitute a prerequisite for making informed decisions; - to benefit even more from the power of media through accessing, understanding, analyzing, learning and creating; - to develop your critical awareness and to foster your own participation in the media. As a participant, you will learn to develop source criticism, to understand how news is produced, to grasp how media and money are interrelated, and, last but not least to figure out how representation in media and participation in the society are related.
