Course Description: This course aims at providing tools for students interested in working in the field of human rights, within an international organisation or a non-governmental association, for example. The course introduces advocacy techniques that relates to three crucial targets of human rights advocacy, which are: implementation of human rights; monitoring implementation of human rights; and adjudication of human rights violations. It also addresses related issues, such as the efficiency and legitimacy of human rights advocacy. The course also grants student with a basic knowledge of the human rights framework and of the current issues that pertain thereto. Human rights defenders' tools will be approached through thematic sections that cover the examination of several human rights (but not all of them) and of related controversies.
