Course Description:
The course aims to provide a solid introduction to the major concepts,
theories, and debates relevant to contemporary politics. It includes
an analysis of the origins and development of the state, with particular
emphasis on the democratic state. It provides an overview of the main
systems of government, of different models of organization of local
administrations and bureaucracies, and of the roles of political parties,
media, pressure groups, and social movements. The course also introduces
the students to the comparative methodological approach in the study of
politics.
