Course Description:
The goal of this course is to help students understand the role that money and capital markets play in the business and global economic environment. We first review the structure of financial markets and discuss foundations of basic monetary theories. We then develop equilibrium theories to understand the behavior of key financial variables such as interest rate, stock price, and exchange rate, and their linkages with central bank monetary policy. The present course will also address current issues such as the effectiveness and characteristics of unconventional monetary policies and their spillover to open emerging economies.
