Course Description:
This course has no theory and plenty of practice, as students will engage in
translations of Korean classical literature. We will be translating classical
poetry written in Sino-Korean(Hanja 한자) and also in Hangul. As many of your
will not be familiar with Sino-Korean literature, we begin with an exploration
into such poems, learning to analyze them and doing translations in small
volumes. We will also be comparing our translations with each other and, more
importantly, with available translations that have already been published. The
volume of translation will gradually increase. Finally
we will embark on a project that involves translating a substantial cultural
work of the student`s choice (of course, with my guidance).
