Course Description:
This course is designed for students of non-scientific fields that strive to understand
the chemical and physical (PChem) basis of everyday life. The course concentrates
on simple but important aspects of modern day societies, such as X rays and CAT
scans, the production and utilization of gasoline and polymers, the chemical fate and
impact of chemicals on the environment and a variety of technical and scientific
aspects related to human life concerns. All scientific and technical issues are studied
through a question/answer approach. Class demonstrations and field trips are
included to illustrate specific subjects.
