The comparative analysis of social policies, programs and institutions helps us understand why, how and to what effect nations deal with important social problems and issues. The aim of the course is to provide students with a clear idea of the diversity of European social policies, of their historical and political origins, and to allow for the assessment of their performance. The course will also provide an in-depth account of current welfare reforms, in light of their historical development.
