The course reviews theories explaining the nature and causes of violence, and explores the possibilities for conflict resolution and the foundations of peace. It provides students with a set of tools for the analysis of contemporary conflicts and shows how evidence and theory can be effectively used to understand violence and peace. The course draws on a wide range of disciplines, including economics, anthropology, sociology, psychology, cultural studies, politics and international relations and so forth. It also gives students a practical understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of current approaches to conflict resolution and peace-building.
