Course Description: The priority in this course is to create a learning environment in which students gain the communicating, problem-solving, and decision-making skills needed for living all of their lives in a global media culture. This course addresses how the information we receive connects us to the world around us and, more importantly, how we can choose information sources that will enrich our lives and empower us to make a positive impact on our world . Students will engage in a critical and analytical look at the construction, production, and reception of media messages as they relate to global issues of race, class, gender, ethnicity, sexuality, and religion. Students will analyze media messages found in both alternative and mainstream news and entertainment programming on TV and radio, in newspapers and magazines, and on the internet.
