Course Description: Qualitative Research Methods is a one-semester course offered to provide students with an introduction to the theory and practice of qualitative research. Students in this course will learn about the basic format of qualitative academic research including the formation of research questions; and the use of literature review, methodology, data collection and discussion/interpretation. The first half of the class will provide an introduction to the various forms of qualitative research such as biography, ethnography, grounded theory and case study. The second part of the class focuses on case study and the use of qualitative data collection methods such as interview and questionnaire. The course culminates in a group project in which students create a research question, design and implement a methodology to collect data, and interpret these results in the discussion section.
