In recent years, there has been a resurgence of interest in applying psychological knowledge, skills, and theories/concepts to everyday issues and problems. Applied psychology is the field that uses psychological principles to improve and enhance the lives of human beings and solve human problems. Like all psychologists, applied psychologists are trained in the basic science of psychology. Their unique contributions results from the careful application of psychological concepts to identified problems of human behavior. In the first half of the 2oth century, most psychologists taught at universities and engaged in basic research. Today, however, more than two-thirds or more psychologists work in applied settings, such as business, industry, clinics, hospitals, schools, community agencies, or government. Students learn to appreciate the use of psychology toward solving significant social issues.
