Course Description:
The aim of this course is to teach some basic concepts of gender studies to students in order to allow them to think critically about popular culture. The material discussed will movies for the most part, but these concepts can be applied to other cultural texts as well.
Students will also understand that cultural texts do not exist in a vacuum but in a multidimensional space which sometimes overlaps and even contradicts itself.
The course aims to provide attendees with tools that allow them to recognize and criticize pernicious elements in cultural texts that are often considered innocuous and beloved by millions.
