Course Description: This course provides a basic grounding in main concepts of biodiversity and ecology with an urban focus. Students will gain an understanding of the different types of terrestrial plants and animals, how they have evolved and are classified, and how they interact with the biotic and abiotic environments in cities. The focus will be on a practical understanding of Australian ecosystems and their interactions in an urban setting, and the benefits that urban biota and ecosystems provides to people living in cities. Assessment is by assignments, laboratory work and final examination.
