Course Title: Ancient Political Thought 01
Course Number: POLX362L
Course Description: This course is an exploration of the political/philosophical thoughts of some of the seminal thinkers throughout ancient western civilization. We will take a traditional walk through their writings in order to gain insight into the connections between each thinker and to more fully understand how they influenced each other and the nature of political and philosophical discourses. The use of irony, however, will also allow us to get beyond a rigid structuralism that instills in us obedience to the texts; in other words, we will also consider each thinker independently of his/her environment. Finally, our journey will always work towards relevancy to our daily lives and to current events. Because of this, eastern philosophical/religious traditions will serve as a background upon which we will consider various ideas.
